Socialising the Business: The Seminars

2012 marks the 10th Anniversary of Quadriga Consulting.  To celebrate, we’re running a series of seminars throughout the year…

On Thursday January 19, 2012 we’re holding a two-hour seminar called Socialising the Business.  The event is free to attend.  The seminar will held at 10.00am and repeated at 2.00pm.

Socialising the Business will look at how social tools – such as social media, social CRM and cloud technologies – are transforming how all types of businesses do business in international markets.  Therefore the seminar will be of interest to Marketing Directors and Managers, Business Development Managers, CEOs and Business Owners and Corporate Communications Executives.

Jeff Peel, Managing Consultant at Quadriga Consulting, will be joined by Michael Kerr, Managing Director of Provita Animal Health, who will touch on how his company is developing its international business – supported by the social web.

By attending you’ll find out more about:

  • How the corporate web site is being transformed by next generation content management systems
  • How businesses are embracing social media to engage in conversations across the globe
  • Why easily implemented social tools can make collaboration easier for your staff and suppliers
  • The challenges of implementing a social media marketing strategy

The seminars will be held in the meeting room at Lisburn's Premier Inn

The events will also be a good opportunity to network with your peers from other businesses.

Reserve your place

The seminars are free to attend and will be held at Lisburn’s Premier Inn Hotel on January 19, 2012 (we’ll be running separate morning and afternoon sessions – and we’re limited to just 25 attendees at each session).

Oxford Economics Thought Leader Panels

By Jeffrey Peel - I recently moderated two major Thought Leader discussions focused on Digital Megatrends – for Oxford Economics, the global economics consulting firm.

The first discussion was held in London and involved senior business strategists from companies such as AXA Insurance, ITV, Amadeus Capital Partners, Novartis, WPP Group, The BBC, Virgin Media, and Cisco.

The second discussion was a three-city panel involving 16 respondents in London, New York and San Francisco. I chaired the discussion live from the AT&T Telepresence Suite at the Marriott Grosvenor House Hotel in London and the entire proceedings were recorded by Cisco TV in San Jose.  International indeed.

Delegates included senior spokespeople from AT&T, Adobe, Forbes, PwC, SAP, AVG – and many more.

You can watch the entire video series (from both discussions) here – but be prepared, there’s over 3 hours of content in total.

Or for a quick taster, here’s a short sequence featuring John Sviokla of Diamond Advisory Services, PwC commenting on value creation through “collective absorption of risk” and how the market will take advantage of new forms of organization.

Interview with Sony Ericsson’s Head of External Comms

Today I attended Communicate Magazine’s Social Media in a Business Context event and had the opportunity to interview Merran Wrigley, Sony Ericsson’s Head of External Communications.

I asked Merran to tell me a little more about her social media based press-room.

Quadriga Consulting develops such press resources – as well as corporate blogs – for clients.  Merran outlined the challenges she faced in terms of integrating her new press-room into Sony Ericsson’s existing web based resources.

Canonical URLs (Nerdy Post)

This must be the nerdiest blog post I have ever written.  However, it’s somewhat of a gift to my “community”.  I’ll admit that the topic of this post is a bit of a hobby horse of mine – having sat through the NetConcepts SEO session for the last two years at Web 2.0 Expo.

It’s canonical URLs…that’s right.  You read correctly.  Here’s the deal.  If you own a domain sometimes your host provider may not have automatically created canonical URLs.  What does that mean?  Well it means that your site may have duplicate versions.  For example Google may be indexing http://yoursite.com as well as http://www.yoursite.com – this is hardly ideal from an SEO point of view.  Even worse, it may be that your root URL goes nowhere…i.e. is redirected to oblivion.

Canonicalisation means ensuring that all your various URLs go to the same place using 301 redirects.  That means everything is tidy and Google only has to index one site.  Ask your host provider if you don’t know how to do it.  But it’s a basic SEO principle that many web site owners miss.

PR, Event Management and the Social Web

Jeffrey Peel of Quadriga Consulting here interviews Peter Vlachos of Greenwich University and Steve Loynes of Chameleon PR about the impact social media technologies are having on their respective disciplines: event management and public relations.  Both Peter and Steve believe that the social web is an adjunct to traditional processes – and that there is still a fundamental role for person to person interaction.
