The Business Evidence Blog focuses on technology in a business context – with a strong focus on business and technology trends, technology economics and evidence about how technology impacts economic or social development. We tend to focus on pet subjects – e.g. mobility, social media, enterprise software, cloud computing.

We don’t publish press releases although we do consider opinion pieces that perhaps push forward a debate or discussion about technology and how it’s impacting on business or society or both. If you have a media release that contains survey or evidence data we may consider publishing as part of another post. However, we’ll copy-edit. We don’t like grand claims – so avoid using the word “leading” or phrases like “world beating.” Unless, of course, you have some form of independent evidence.

We especially welcome articles that show causal relationships between things – for example, between technology adoption and economic development; or perhaps between a new product and a materially improved business process (but we’ll need the evidence clearly stated).

By Jeffrey Peel - I recently moderated two major Thought Leader discussions focused on Digital Megatrends – for Oxford Economics, the global economics consulting firm.

The first discussion was held in London and involved senior business strategists from companies such as AXA Insurance, ITV, Amadeus Capital Partners, Novartis, WPP Group, The BBC, Virgin Media, and Cisco.

The second discussion was a three-city panel involving 16 respondents in London, New York and San Francisco. I chaired the discussion live from the AT&T Telepresence Suite at the Marriott Grosvenor House Hotel in London and the entire proceedings were recorded by Cisco TV in San Jose. International indeed.

Delegates included senior spokespeople from AT&T, Adobe, Forbes, PwC, SAP, AVG – and many more.

You can watch the entire video series (from both discussions) here – but be prepared, there’s over 3 hours of content in total.

Or for a quick taster, here’s a short sequence featuring John Sviokla of Diamond Advisory Services, PwC commenting on value creation through “collective absorption of risk” and how the market will take advantage of new forms of organization.

This must be the nerdiest blog post I have ever written. However, it’s somewhat of a gift to my “community”. I’ll admit that the topic of this post is a bit of a hobby horse of mine – having sat through the NetConcepts SEO session for the last two years at Web 2.0 Expo.

It’s canonical URLs…that’s right. You read correctly. Here’s the deal. If you own a domain sometimes your host provider may not have automatically created canonical URLs. What does that mean? Well it means that your site may have duplicate versions. For example Google may be indexing http://yoursite.com as well as http://www.yoursite.com – this is hardly ideal from an SEO point of view. Even worse, it may be that your root URL goes nowhere…i.e. is redirected to oblivion.

Canonicalisation means ensuring that all your various URLs go to the same place using 301 redirects. That means everything is tidy and Google only has to index one site. Ask your host provider if you don’t know how to do it. But it’s a basic SEO principle that many web site owners miss.
