YouGov are pleased to be partnering the first Government 2010 Event in London on October 22nd, 2009. Peter Kellner, President and Head of Political and Social research at YouGov, will be giving a keynote address.

The event will bring together parliamentarians, civil servants, technologists, bloggers and researchers to discuss and debate what we should do in response to the changes facing government and public service.

In his keynote address, Peter will use YouGov’s research data to show that so-called web 2.0 technologies are transforming the way people communicate, interact and entertain themselves. He will demonstrate how YouGov’s online survey tools, where respondents engage with web 2.0 technologies, produce consistently accurate results when predicting election outcomes.

He will argue that if government is to remain current and relevant it needs to open up to a society that is more information savvy than government itself. People of all ages are, increasingly, by-passing traditional media and creating their own. They are communicating via a myriad of new social networking tools. They have the ability to build better web based information portals than government itself.

Sunlight Foundation is focusing on making government more transparent through Web 2.0 tools. The fact is that in the US (never mind the UK) too many government departments spend too much money on web site development that delivers too little in terms of understandable information.

This means that valuable information that should be in the public debate is hidden. It’s a kind of web obfuscation caused by bloat and poor user interface design.

Ellen mentioned that the Sunlight Foundation often produces ‘alternative’ web sites that present government data in much better, more visually understandable ways. The result is that the alternative sites – often built for peanuts compared to federal budgets – become much more popular that the ‘official sites’.

The Foundation also challenges the vastly inflated costs associated with official sites such as Recovery.gov - that has a massive budget of multiple tens of millions of dollars. Why such budgets in a Web 2.0 world?

The Sunlight Foundation is a non-profit organisation that is shaking the processes by which governments provide citizens with information. We need its equivalent in the UK.

Tim outlines why the next logical step in terms of the development of the web has to be about linking data rather than merely linking web pages. Using the standard HTTP protocol the web has the potential to pull down data silo walls if only we act collectively to link data and think data.

New version enhances collaborative working and accelerates Microsoft SharePoint, Lotus Notes and Enterprise 2.0 secure web applications

Belfast, Northern Ireland, 20th February 2009 – Replify, the company that pioneered the all-software based approach to application acceleration, has announced an enhanced version of its Reptor application acceleration suite. The suite now includes seamless integration between corporate servers and distributed workgroup resources. It achieves this by accelerating traffic between virtual appliances, in the corporate data centre, and remote offices connected by wide area network connections. This means that remote workgroup workers have a significantly improved collaborative working and file sharing experience.

According to Wesley Darlington, CTO at Replify, “One of the issues faced by remote workgroups is that multiple users are requesting files over a slow, shared pipe that connects with head office. What we have done with this new release is to relieve the burden on this pipe by, in effect, consolidating file requests on our workgroup accelerator. This means that files that are being requested by multiple users are cached locally rather than being sent up and down the same pipe for different users. Plus we strip out all the unnecessary, duplicated, junk that tends to be sent up and down the line to and from workgroups. Using our technology results in the user experience at the remote workgroup becoming just like it is for workers directly connected to the HQ LAN. We achieve this through our unique XDR technology.”

The new version of Reptor – version 3.2 – also introduces enhanced features for accelerating secure document sharing applications such as SharePoint and Lotus Notes – resulting in faster access to secure corporate documentation over remote and mobile connections. Version 3.2 also handles SSL certificate management and HTTPS traffic – meaning that Enterprise 2.0 web applications now run faster – even over poor WiFi and 2G connections.

Version 3.2 of Replify’s Reptor is available for immediate download today on http://www.replify.com/

Replify was founded in 2007 and is headquartered in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The company’s objective was to be the first to develop an all-software based WAN optimization solution that would exceed hardware based performance. The Replify principal management team has gained considerable experience developing and bringing to market WAN optimisation products at both Swan Labs and F5 Networks. Now the team is focusing on the next generation of WAN optimization and intends to make Replify a global player in software solutions.

Replify was one of only 20 UK companies selected for Web Mission 2009. Web Mission seeks to introduce 20 of the best Web 2.0 companies to the many inspiring people and supportive Web 2.0 networks which exist in Silicon Valley. The mission takes place in from March 28 to April 3, 2009.
